Editor's Corner
by Kathy Ritchie

In Janice Byer's article this month, she talks about not being afraid to spend money on our businesses-this is extremely valuable advice. I'm adding to her article by also stressing the importance of buying the best equipment you can afford, so it doesn't break sooner rather than later, and you end up spending twice as much as you would have if you had just purchased quality the first time. I learned this lesson on telephone equipment and headsets. I don't remember exactly how many phone 'systems' I killed before I purchased a high quality system intended for a business environment. Remember, without our equipment and technology, we can't do what we do.

No where is it more readily apparent that technology is progressing faster than we can keep up, than compatibility between our tech toys.

For instance, on my old Dell PC, my new Axim X51 communicated easily, even with the new Windows Mobile technology. So, I have a new desktop now, with the latest technology and what happens? It will not communicate with the Axim. Every suggestion I get is met with failure. I have one more option, and the Bluetooth® adapter arrives soon. If this doesn't work, I'm not sure what to try next.

Is it so hard to ensure technology works, or, is this just another way to separate us from our money?

What's your opinion? Send it to me at kritchie@rssherald.com and I will post them in the July issue.

Thanks and happy teching! Kathy Ritchie, Editor

One more quick tip: On your wireless network, that is so convenient I don't know why I resisted all these years… be sure and ENABLE your wireless security. Having to enter a key code is a small price to pay for the security of your equipment.

Happy Teching!

Kathy
